Georgia Mooney

Georgia Mooney makes music fit for stargazing.
Audiences first came to know her as one-quarter of acclaimed folk band All Our Exes Live In Texas. Touring the world several times over, including as special guests of the iconic Midnight Oil, Backstreet Boys, Nathaniel Rateliff, and a host of others, the ‘Exes’ took home the ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album in 2017, along with an AIR Award, and two National Live Music Awards.

The release of Mooney’s debut solo album Full of Moon marked an exciting new chapter and the stepping forward of a major talent - multi-faceted, magnetic, and unmistakably her own.
Co-produced with Grammy-winner Noah Georgeson (Cate Le Bon, Joanna Newsom), the album unveils a lush dream-folk universe. Winding melodies drift over delicate piano and a dulcimer she won in a raffle.
Full of Moon features the singles ‘War Romance’, ‘Break It Off’, ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’, ‘Soothe You’ and ‘Nothing Is Forever’.

Full of Moon earned ARIA, AIR and Australian Folk Award nominations, and attracted praise from the likes of Wonderland, House of Solo, Under The Radar, FAULT Magazine, Daily Telegraph, ABC RN Breakfast, ABC Local, frankie Magazine, Rolling Stone Australia, The Music Network, NME, Pilerats, Margot Magazine, Q News, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, The Music, The AU Review and beyond, with radio support from Double J, FBi, 2SER, Triple R, PBS, Edge Radio and many others.

A revered musician’s musician, Mooney has toured with Passenger, Martha Wainwright, Kate Miller-Heidke, Tim Minchin, Bernard Fanning, Matt Corby and more, performing at major festivals and sold-out shows across Australia, UK, Ireland and Canada.

As charismatic a media personality as she is a musician, Mooney co-hosts the hit comedy podcast Fwends, helms acclaimed variety show SUPERGROUP, and is a familiar voice on ABC Radio.

Mooney’s forthcoming second album—co-produced with UK producer Marcus Hamblett (Villagers, Laura Marling)—marks a bold evolution, layering synths with dulcimers, dry driving rhythms and pop hooks, and shaping a sound uniquely her own: romantic avant-folk.
The album will accompany a year of major international touring ahead of its 2026 release.

“Go look at your eyes, they’re full of moon” - Joni Mitchell

This album is for daydreaming. Lyrically, it yearns for connection, examining intimate human relationships, and their variations in perception and fantasy. When stories have many sides, they also have many truths. Musically, it’s a glorious and cinematic sonic fresco, holding beauty, musicality and romance in highest regard. It was recorded remotely over 18 of the strangest months in living memory, linking an all-star band based across three continents. The album grew outward in response to the physical world closing in; even the more intimate songs luxuriate in their drama.

Full of Moon’s songs were penned between All Our Exes Live in Texas tours, on solo writing trips all over the world, half on piano and half on a handmade dulcimer Mooney won in a raffle and subsequently fell in love with. With the original plan to record in LA during 2020 out the window, Mooney and Georgeson used the situation to their advantage and recruited some of their favourite musicians from across three continents to contribute to the making of the album remotely. Critically acclaimed string composer, Rob Moose (Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Taylor Swift) contributed magnificent string parts to six songs from his studio in NYC, Sam Dixon (Adele) anchors, twists and transports songs with his creative basslines sent from London, Marcus Hamblett (Laura Marling, Villagers) crafted worlds within worlds with layers of synths, guitars and horns from Brighton, England, Ben Edgar (Angus & Julia Stone), brought unique texture with his eclectic guitar parts from Germany, and renowned jazz drummer Evan Mannell’s impeccable and inventive rhythms, collaborating from Mooney’s home of Eora/Sydney.

Influences from every member of the Wainwrightfamily, Joni Mitchell, the sophistication of the Great American Songbook and even classical composers sift through the songs seamlessly, alongside fuzzed out guitars and production that evokes the unsettling genius of Kate Bush. It was made during a period of global tragedy, as a way to find solace and catharsis in art and love. This record seeks someone to spend the end of the world with.

PRESS QUOTES:

”It’s nothing short of a triumph, a gorgeously sprawling collection of cinematic art pop that lovingly tips its hat to Kate Bush. Opener War Romance appropriately sets the stage, as Mooney’s voice cuts clean across the low swirl of the piano before being lifted by a lush mess of strings, synths, vocal harmonies and a blistering guitar solo. It’s completely enthralling. The softer moments are the highlights here: the spiralling guitars and strings that encase Mooney in I Am Not In A Hurry, and the tender closer Soothe You, which could have been beamed straight from a dimly lit bar in 1950s New York. Full of Moon is an album to savour and sink in to. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2”
-
The Australian

“When executed with this much aplomb, the seemingly disparate pieces of the puzzle align so perfectly, it stuns.
…with an operatic flair that channels both the high drama and raw emotion of Kate Bush. It’s a vocal style that many attempt but very few actually pull off. In this case, Mooney knocks it out of the park.
Full of Moon is a dazzling, inventive pop record: richly textured, captivating and gleefully strange”

- NME Australia

”Mix a sense of longing and a few augmented chords with a pinch of celestial vocals and you will have Full of Moon, the debut solo album by Georgia Mooney, from All Our Exes Live in Texas. The Kate Bush comparisons are easy to draw, with fragile contemplative piano ballads, ascending strings, and a warm, reflective “Mother Superior” vocal treatment. Yet there is plenty of humour to be found on the record, among its more serious relationship reflections. “You’re not a patch on Benedict Cumberbatch” is a line to use in all future relationship breakdowns from here on. It only takes one listen to lead single “War Romance” to know we are hearing a work of surprise and musical sophistication, with chord changes that might even throw Tchaikovsky off. This is a record to sing along to, bleary-eyed in the car, after burning down your love life. Full of Moon is a fun and theatrical record that reflects how lovers change and life goes on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2”
-
The Big Issue

”Full of Moon is lightyears ahead and a treat to listen to. Full of Moon is wonderfully Kate Bush yet never unoriginal. The comparison might be obvious and unavoidable, but from the first seconds of the album to the last, that same ethereal enchantment occurs. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”
- The AU Review

”A formidable singer, songwriter, and as it turns out, a pop eccentric… full of cinematic, dreamlike pop vignettes… I LOVE this album”
- Tim Shiel, Double J

“Mooney throws back the curtains and pitches beyond the window… navigating a path through light and shadow… brings to mind the Trio work of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris”
- Bernard Zuel, music journalist

“Her voice and her visions make it clear she has talent to burn, and her songs play like movies you’d see again and again.”
- Spectrum Culture

“achingly beautiful”
- FAULT Magazine

“slow-burning, majestic folk”
-
Pilerats

“a collage of lush musical landscapes”
- ABC Radio National, The Music Show

“Mooney’s airy and ornate vocals take center stage..Initially, the track recalls the baroque pop of artists like Weyes Blood, but with the chorus, it steadily takes on a dreamy cinematic sheen, one more akin to Kate Bush”
-
Under The Radar

"Mooney’s debut offering is “War Romance”... delivered through [her] searing croon. Light yet poignant, the artist’s vocals carry us through the sea of soaring violins, and hair-raising harmonies… Georgia Mooney transcends the folk band [All Our Exes Live in Texas]’s critical acclaim by embarking on a solo journey…chock-full with pure cinematic artistry"
-
Wonderland Magazine

"lush and epic"
-
The AU Review

"It’s an ethereal example of detailed and nuanced songwriting, defined by fuzzy guitars and nostalgic, Kate Bush-esque production."

"When she started playing I could immediately understand why the room was packed. She played with a tongue-in-cheek elegance that disarmed everyone instantly. Her lyrics told stories but not without humour, from hinting to an attraction to Benedict Cumberbatch to dropping her pick halfway through a song, the show continued on with a refreshing irreverence and charm. I think everyone fell in love at that show"
